All good things come to an end, including Environmentaland Los Angeles.

Environmentaland closed her doors to Los Angeles on October 21st with a goodbye party headlined by Jason Lytle of Grandaddy fame. College kids, hipsters, industry heads, tourists and activists came out one last time to tour Environmentaland before she set sail for Portland, Oregon (launching in spring 2010). Jason mixed his set with Grandaddy classics along with several tracks from his recent album, Yours Truly, the Commuter. Shon Tomlin ruled the decks, Hit & Run screened printed one of a kind Environmentaland T-shirts and the crowd competed in desert mini golf, recycled paper plane shoot outs, organic food challenge and other popular Environmentaland attractions.

Launching Environmentaland was similar to pushing an aircraft carrier off a sand bar with balsa wood oars. Our staff consisted mostly of volunteers and interns who believed in the project and didn’t mind sacrificing their social calendars and bank accounts to help turn Environmentaland into something real. We launched the project with no sponsors and a very raw space that had been used as a Halloween costume store prior to our residency. Getting Environmentaland operational seemed to be an impossible journey up a twisting road.

With any concept that you believe in, once you gain a little momentum... everything seems to come together. Many of our friends and partners came to the table in order to help Environmentaland come to life. We cannot thank FUEL TV enough for their support and commitment to the project. Hollywood & Highland for donating space, advertising mediums and pushing the project at every turn. Matt, Renee, Jim, Jean, Mike, Cheryl and Jeff at Eyerus who spent their nights and weekends turning empty walls into works of art while developing our amazing creative. XL5 Productions for upgrading the venue and all the fantastic individuals involved with the project including Jake Munsey, Jared Spoko, Maggie Navarlatz, Barbie Brady, Vandria Caballero-Stevens, Michelle Plotkin, Jen Orsi, Jenna Eyrich, Rachel Kraus, Lex Monley, Sean Ramm, Drew Denny, Nevette Previd, Mia Leist, David Markland, Jun Tsuvoi, Jennifer Licursi, Shazila Mohammed and Jennifer Wyatt + everyone else who lent a hand.

We are looking forward to Environmentaland 2010, with more thrills, interactive exhibits and ideas that will generate a positive shift in society. Portland, Oregon is our next stop with the launch date to be announced in December 2009. We've already spoken with people and sponsors in the great Northwest who are excited to bring the park up Interstate 5.
